Special Character Report: Mercy Day

On Thursday, Catholics around the world celebrated 'Mercy Day'! This special day marks the anniversary of the 24th September 1827, when Catherine McAuley first opened the doors to the House of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland.

Catherine's vision was simple: to shelter, educate and protect poor, marginalized women and girls. Her strong dedication to the cause and steadfast service transformed this grassroots initiative into a global mission known as the Sisters of Mercy - a movement that has founded primary schools, built hospitals and established social services in our very country!

We thank you for the life and vision of Catherine McAuley, who answered your call with courage and humility. We praise you for the enduring legacy of the Sisters of Mercy, whose hands have healed, whose words have taught and whose hearts have loved the vulnerable for nearly two centuries.

Inspire us today to be the face of your mercy in our community. Grant us the courage to see the needs of others, the warmth to offer hospitality to the lonely, and the strength to stand up for justice.
