On Thursday afternoon, Year 11 Health and Recreation students took part in a volleyball tournament held at the Edgar Centre, competing in teams within their classes in a year level competition.

The tournament was played across two pools, with teams completing round-robin matches to determine rankings. The winner of each pool then progressed through to a final match to decide the overall champion.

Throughout the afternoon, students demonstrated growing understanding of volleyball fundamentals, teamwork, communication, and game strategy.

This experience will contribute toward a 5-credit assessment, where students will reflect on this tournament alongside other volleyball movement experiences completed in class. Students will analyse how participation in physical activity can impact hauora and wellbeing, using the Fonofale model of health and wellbeing as a framework for reflection.

The Fonofale model encourages students to consider not only physical health, but also mental, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing, along with the cultural and environmental factors that influence overall health. This provides a meaningful lens for understanding how movement experiences like this tournament contribute to holistic wellbeing.

Overall, students embraced the spirit of the day. It was a great opportunity to bring learning to life in a real sporting context.
