Welcome to Term 4: A Message from our Principal

Kia ora tatou

I hope our students have managed some relaxing time over the holiday break and that you are enjoying the improving spring weather. We were pleased to be able to gather together again at school on Monday.

Needless to say, end of year functions, camps and of course, junior and senior exams will dominate this term. It is important that our young people recognise the importance of this final academic push as they prepare to demonstrate the learning and understanding they have been pursuing throughout the year.

As we move through Term Four, students will wear summer uniform. This means ties are not compulsory for Term Four, however there will be formal occasions during the term when a formal uniform with a tie will be requested in advance.

Today, 16th October, we begin our 150th commemorations. Planning is underway for a tree planting and plaque to be laid by students, a drone photo of a ‘150 shape’ created by current students and staff, and some time capsules to be buried. These student activities will occur onsite at school, and due to weather conditions today, are scheduled for Wednesday of next week.

In this newsletter you will find more information about the anniversary events across the weekend. Please remember that this weekend is for all ex-students from the colleges that contributed to Trinity – Kavanagh, Moreau, St Paul’s, St Dominic’s, and St Philomena’s. If you have family members who have not yet heard about the 150th, please point them towards the school website.

Of particular interest to our current students and whānau was the Past-Present Football Match held at the Logan Park artifical turf yesterday evening. This match (literally) kicked off the 150th event. It was great to see some of our friends and whānau at this match, supporting our past and present footballers. Similarly, on Saturday afternoon, we have a Past-Present Debate at 1:00pm in the Auditorium followed by performances from our school bands and performing artists through until 3:00pm. Door sales are available. On Sunday morning, we will gather at St Patrick’s Basilica at Mercy Parish on Macandrew Road for Mass at 11:00am. All are welcome to attend this special Mass celebration, marking 150 years of Catholic Education in Dunedin. There certainly is plenty happening to involve our current students as well as our past over the days ahead.

Ngā mihi nui
