A Message from our Principal

We enjoyed a great weekend of reconnecting with past students, honouring the place of Catholic secondary schooling in Dunedin over the past 150 years, and bringing alumni from Moreau, St Philomena’s, St Dominic’s, Kavanagh Colleges, and St Paul’s High School into Trinity to see who we are today. The gym was transformed into a beautiful environment for our visitors on Friday evening, while the auditorium was the venue for the very entertaining celebrity debate, and performance showcase on Saturday. It was fitting to acknowledge the girls’ schools once situated where Kmart is now, by having our 150th Mass and lunch at St Patrick’s Basilica with Bishop Michael on Sunday morning.
I was truly impressed with the three Time Capsules that our students created, to be opened in 50 years. The year 13s buried their time capsule and we will keep the other two stored in the archives room until 2076 – along with the pin drop details for the buried one, as I imagine the message of where it is buried might go astray over the next 50 years! The Year 13s have gifted a kōwhai tree and a beautiful plaque acknowledging the anniversary. This is placed near the black gates if you wish to take a look. Our whole school came together for the haka and an aerial photo of students forming the symbol ‘150’ on Wednesday afternoon. We truly appreciate Trinity whānau, Patston Media, supporting us with this.
A huge thank you to Michelle Branford, Emmeline Kendrick and Rebecca Meikle, for organising the anniversary weekend. We next look forward to the development of an alumni association and ongoing connection with ex-students.
God’s blessings for a very enjoyable Labour Weekend.
Manaaki e te Atua,
Kate Nicholson
