Throughout our two-semester Performance Sport course, Year 7/8 students have experienced a range of movement contexts, including volleyball, touch, and most recently a basketball unit. Each unit has been designed to build sport-specific skills, and confidence, communication, and emerging leadership capabilities within team environments.
As students progressed through the course, there has been a clear shift from participating in games to actively understanding how to influence performance. Skill development in passing, spatial awareness, decision-making, and tactical play has been evident across all units. Just as importantly, students have begun to take ownership of their learning and their roles within a team setting.
The final basketball tournament brought this learning together in a competitive environment. Students stepped into a variety of responsibilities beyond playing, including coach, captain, trainer, official score keeper, and sideline referee roles.
Across the tournament, four evenly matched teams competed in tightly contested games: Tung Tung Sahur, Certified Big Backs, Team Blue, and Tornadoes.
After a series of exciting and closely fought matches, Team Blue emerged as the tournament winners, showing consistency, communication, and teamwork under pressure.
Overall, the tournament was a fitting conclusion to the basketball unit and a reflection of the growth students have made across the course.
