Crafting the Sound of Science: An Extraordinary Badge Project

As part of the Science Badge programme, Year 11 student Max Cathro decided to take the completion of his Electronics badge to the next level. Instead of just building a range of series and parallel circuits and stopping there, he decided to use and increase his knowledge of electronics to design and build his own electric guitar. Although the process extended far beyond the electronics part of the task (he also carved the body, for example), it was amazing to see and hear him describe the process of his final product to the staff of the Science Department. Max acknowledged the help he received from others and the learning he developed along the way; exactly how good Science happens!

It is an excellent demonstration of the application of physics to art, as Science isn’t only limited to the laboratory!

Ka pai te mahi, Max!
