South Island Big Sing Cadenza

Last Thursday, the Trinity Choir - Trinitones - headed off to Timaru for the South Island Big Sing Cadenza.

The Trinitones were selected to attend the Cadenza following the regional Big Sing event held in Dunedin in June, which was a fantastic achievement. This was the first time Trinity had participated in a Big Sing Cadenza and all those involved greatly appreciated this opportunity.

The Cadenza included two very full days of performing, listening to all the other choirs, and participating in workshops/rehearsals for two massed items. The whole event was capped off with a Gala Concert in the Sacred Heart Basilica where every choir sang one song individually and then all 12 choirs sang two items together. The Basilica was a sensational space for this concert both visually and acoustically.

The Trinitones represented our school enthusiastically and proudly at the Cadenza, and they received a Wharauroa (Bronze) Award at the end of the event.

The group, which included students from Year 7 right through to Year 13, got on really well together and supported one another throughout the weekend. No doubt they learned a lot and hopefully they’ve been inspired to continue their involvement with the choir - and perhaps also encourage others to join as well.

Thank you to everyone who has worked with and assisted the choir this year and who helped with the trip to the Cadenza in Timaru: Ewen Clarke-Wallace (choir director), Michael Grant, Georgie Watts, and parents Rhodri Harfoot and Louise Stevens. Thank you also to all the choir whānau for their support.

Ewen has plans for ongoing performances for the Trinitones, so we look forward to hearing more from the Trinity choir in the future.
