A Message from our Principal

It was an absolute pleasure being part of our Academic Blues Evening on Tuesday at Toitū. We were thrilled to welcome back Ben Wilkins, Head Boy of 2000, and now Interventional Cardiologist. His message about choosing a career in an area you enjoy, doing it well, and broadening your horizons through training and career opportunities, is a timeless one. Thank you, Ben, for joining us on Tuesday evening. This event is always a special way to acknowledge our Excellence Endorsed students from the previous year as well as Scholarship students and to announce the names of our overall Top Scholars of the previous year once NCEA external results are taken into account.

A well-deserved congratulations to Nina Hollis-Pye (Year 11 Top Scholar), Joel Alfus (Year 12 Top Scholar) and Louis Le (Year 13 Top Scholar). The Academic Blues evening was also an opportunity to publicly congratulate Holly Waterworth on her Scholarship in Printmaking, and Megumi Toh on her Top Scholar Award in Scholarship Japanese – it will be wonderful to celebrate this award with Megumi at the end of April in Wellington.

None of these achievements happen accidentally. Every day learning builds on the day before. Commitment to homework, strong attendance and being on time for classes, persistence, and valuing learning, contributes to progress. This discipline and self-management developed in school years also form life-long skills that I am sure we want all our young people to have. Thank you to our whānau who encourage these skills and who value learning, at home.

Our keen and proactive student leadership this year have a few projects underway. I encourage you all to consider taking part in the ‘Move for More’ initiative at Anzac Weekend. There is more information in the newsletter today.

Have a wonderful weekend, and let’s continue to pray for peace and resolution in the Middle East.

Manaaki te Atua, God Bless
