Māori Camp 2026
Our Year 10 Māori Studies class returned this afternoon after a wonderful 11th wānaka taiao (leadership camp). Based at the stunning Paradise Station, near Tāhuna (Glenorchy), which movie buffs might recognise from the new Brad Pitt film 'Heart of the Beast', releasing in cinemas today. Our ākoka (students) spent four days immersed in te taiao (nature), tikaka (customs, values), and mātauraka (knowledge), including visits to St Gerard's School, Alexandra and St Joseph's School, Queenstown, a visit to Glenorchy Primary School to teach poi, kapa haka and kēmu, a hīkoi (walk) along Te Komama (Route Burn), and an early morning walk to spectacular Lake Sylvan.
Kā mihi nui (a huge thank you) to Moananu Pesamino Tili, Dee Sutherland and Geoff Waide for their wonderful support on camp, and to our students, Cameron, Andy, Harry, Elise, Sonny, Stacey, Ruby, Riley, Vinnie, Joe, Cecilia, Oaklan, Freya, Ivy, Anna, Noah and Katia, for another unforgettable camp.
