Entry Requirement

Highly recommended: at least 12 credits from Level 2 English, including at least 4 credits from externally assessed standards.  It is strongly recommended that students have also achieved English 2.4.

 

For students who did not attain Literacy at Level 2, this course may be adapted.

Course Outline

This course is designed to encourage students to become thoughtful and confident communicators. Students will explore a diverse range of texts, developing a deeper understanding of literature and society, both in Aotearoa New Zealand and globally. 

Students will have the opportunity to develop their creative and analytical writing skills, as well as deliver an effective oral presentation.

AS 91101 - Produce a selection of crafted and controlled writing - 6 credits

AS 91476 - Create a crafted and controlled oral text - 3 credits

AS 91479 - Develop an informed understanding of literature using critical texts - 4 credits

or 

AS 91478 - ​​Analyse significant connections across texts, supported by evidence - 4 credits

 

Externals

AS 91472 - Analyse specified aspect(s) of studied written texts - 4 credits

AS 91473  Analyse specified aspect(s) of studied visual texts - 4 credits

AS 9 Analyse significant aspects of unfamiliar written texts  through close reading - 4 credits

 

 

Where Does It Lead

Many students take English at Level 3 because of the emphasis on effective communication which is a requirement in a broad range of tertiary courses.
