Course Outline

The course aims to develop critical thinking by exploring and interpreting language and literature. Students will read texts from both Aotearoa New Zealand and global perspectives. Students will have the opportunity to develop their writing skills in a range of contexts, as well as deliver an effective oral presentation.

Credits in this course enable students to meet the literacy requirements for University Entrance, namely:

10 credits at Level 2 in English - achieve at least 5 credits in reading and 5 credits in writing

AS 91101 - Produce a selection of crafted and controlled writing - 6 credits

AS 91104 - ​​Analyse significant connections across texts, supported by evidence - 4 credits

AS 91107  - Analyse aspects of visual texts through close viewing - 3 credits

or

AS 91102 - Create a crafted and controlled oral text - 3 credits

AS 91098 - Analyse specified aspect(s) of studied written texts - 4 credits

AS 91099  Analyse specified aspect(s) of studied visual texts - 4 credits

AS 91100 Analyse significant aspects of unfamiliar written texts  through close reading - 4 credits

Where Does It Lead

L3 English

Students looking to take Level 3 English should select this course rather than Level 2 English Literacy to better prepare them for the understanding of literature required at NCEA Level 3.
