NCEA Level 2 with Achievement Standards

Entry Requirement

It is recommended that students have the grade “Achieved” but preferably better in the five  L1 French  achievement standards.

Course Outline

The course builds on material covered in Year 9, 10 and 11 and through listening speaking, reading and writing activities encourages communicative competence in:

  • a prepared speech, conversation and writing, internally assessed
  • listening and reading comprehension, externally assessed



AS 91120 - Spoken Presentation    - 4 credits

AS 91119 - Conversation (optional)    - 5 credits

AS 91122 - Writing    - 5 credits


AS 91118 - Listening Skills    - 5 credits

AS 91121 - Reading Skills    5 credits


Where Does It Lead

L3 French  

Enhanced capacity to use the language as an available means of communication.

Tertiary study in conjunction with degrees and diplomas in international marketing, law, tourism and hospitality, engineering, politics, viticulture and many other areas.  

Opportunities for school or organisational sponsored exchanges, including stays with French families.
