Music Lessons

Term 1 has seen plenty of Arts activities get underway at Trinity, and one of these activities is the weekly itinerant music lessons.

There is a vast range of instruments on offer to be learnt including woodwind, brass, guitar, and strings, as well as group singing. This week we interviewed a few of the students lucky enough to be having these lessons to see how they have been going so far.

Sophiah is a student in Year 7 who plays the violin. She already has four years of experience playing the violin with the help of her family who also share a love for string instruments. This fulfils Sophiah’s passion and love for playing the violin. Her teacher Mrs Tucker helps her appreciate the unique bow and sounds of the violin, hopefully inspiring Sophiah to play for many more years.

Naomi is a Year 7 student who plays the saxophone and she takes lessons every week during school time with Mr Cornish. She played for two years prior to starting at Trinity and enjoys the lessons because of her cool teacher. She began playing the saxophone because she enjoys the style of music that can be played on this instrument.

Camila is a Year 9 student who also plays the violin. She had been committed to the violin for two years before coming to Trinity. Her teacher Mrs Tucker has helped her to grow her love for the instrument even more. Camila enjoys being part of the violin community as she thinks it’s great and versatile.

Julian is a Year 8 student who plays the guitar and violin at Trinity. He is new to playing these instruments, but has been really enjoying them. He loves learning about the features of the instruments and the techniques required to play them.

The woodwind, brass, and violin lessons are now all full, but if any students would like to learn drums, bass, guitar, or do group singing with Mr Grant, then they should contact Ms Watts (gwatts@trinity.school.nz).
