Course Outline

This programme is designed for students who require more support in their progress towards achieving Level 2 English standards. Students will complete a variety of activities that will help build their engagement, skills and confidence in English. Students will study a variety of texts and make connections between these and the world around them. 

The key difference between this course and Year 12 English is primarily the  pace of learning that supports individual learning needs.

Credits in this course enable students to meet the literacy requirements for University Entrance, namely: 10 credits at Level 2 in English - achieve at least 5 credits in reading and 5 credits in writing

Internals

AS 91101 - Produce a selection of crafted and controlled writing - 6 credits

AS 91105  - Use information literacy skills to form developed conclusion - 4 credits

AS 91107  - Analyse aspects of visual texts through close viewing - 3 credits

or

AS 91102 - Create a crafted and controlled oral text - 3 credits

Externals

Students will choose 2 of the following:

AS 91098 - Analyse specified aspect(s) of studied written texts - 4 credits

AS 91099  Analyse specified aspect(s) of studied visual texts - 4 credits

AS 91100 Analyse significant aspects of unfamiliar written texts  through close reading - 4 credits

Where Does It Lead

At the Head of Department’s discretion this course could lead to Level 3 English, but as a general guideline, students looking to take Level 3 English should take L2 English in order to better prepare them for the understanding of literature required at NCEA Level 3.
